FIVE FACTS FROM THE SOURCE (Embedded):
Immigrants who are here illegally aren't here just because they smuggled in. They could have either "entered the United States without inspection or were admitted temporarily and stayed past the date required to leave" (Department of Homeland Security).
The number of illegal immigrants that entered the United States as of January 2010 "was 10.8 million"(Department of Homeland Security).

Out of the 10.8 million immigrants, " 62 percent were from Mexico" which is m ore than half of the illegal immigrants we have in our borders(Department of Homeland Security).
The illegal immigration population "is defined as all foreign-born non-citizens who are not legal residents" in the country they are in, in this case the Untied States(Department of Homeland Security).
To figure out the illegal immigration population in the U.S. you have to subtract "the total foreign-born population" to the " legally resident population" as of January 2010(Department of Homeland Security).

Summary of Source (Three-Four Sentences of the Who, What, Where, Why, and How in your own words. NO OPINION):

The Department of Homeland Security shows us the statistics of how our population is growing. The rate at which illegal immigrants come to the United States is calculated. It has over half of the illegal immigrants that come from our neighboring country, Mexico.

Credibility of Source:
Author or Site: Who is the author? What training have they had? If there is no author, examine the site. What is the purpose of the site? Who funds the site?

The author is people that work in the Office of Immigration Statistics for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. They have calculated the illegal immigration population by subtracting data that they have collected.

Attachment: Does the author or site have anything to gain from writing this, or is it simply informative? For example, is it a cigarette business posting an article about the benefit of cigarettes, or is it a scientific community unaffiliated with the cigarette business?

Its been put out by a non- profit organization and is simply there to educate.
Bias: Do you detect a bias (a favoring of either side) in the author's writing?

There isn't a bias here because these are simply facts, and not opinions.
References: Does the author cite references in the writing? If so, do these add or take away from the credibility?
Yes they use references to back up their stats they have.
Use of Source: How will you use this source in your project?
I plan to use this source to show how much of our population of illegal immigrants is affecting our population.
